Even though many sources refer to this palazzo as Sophia Loren's canalside £5 million Venice palazzo; she only stayed there during the Venice Film Festival in 1955. The historic Palazzo Tron a San Beneto, located in San Marco with views of the Rialto Bridge and direct access to the Grand Canal, was once the prestigious residence of the influential Tron family in the Republic of Venice. Nicolò Tron, who served as the 68th Doge of Venice from 1471 to 1473, likely commissioned its reconstruction, adding two stories to the building. In 2018, the European Heritage Project acquired important sections of the palazzo, including the piano nobile, the ground floor with its garden, and parts of the attic from the Franchetti family.
By 1955, when the photos were taken at the Palazzo, Sophia Loren was enjoying great success. Following her breakthrough role in The Gold of Naples (1954), the actress was rapidly advancing her career and securing roles alongside prominent Italian film stars like Marcello Mastroianni and Alberto Sordi. During her stay in Venice for the Venice Film Festival, she resided in a lavish 15th-century palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal. Still standing 70 years later, this Byzantine property is closely associated with Old Hollywood, having been a favorite haunt of Henry Fonda as well. As of 2016, it was valued at €5,900,000 by Venice Sotheby's International Realty.
Dating back to the 15th century, during Venice's Byzantine period, this property is located directly behind the Palazzo Fortuny and is just moments away from Campo Santo Stefano, Teatro La Fenice, and the Ponte di Rialto. The Palazzo features five bedrooms and four bathrooms, accessible via a private elevator. It includes a formal dining room, a water gate, a stunning terrace, a courtyard entrance, and three exquisitely designed reception rooms. Among these, the main 'portego' room is almost 20 meters long, and the entire apartment spans 4,300 square feet.

The third-floor apartment features five bedrooms and four bathrooms and is situated in a beautifully quiet area of Sestiere di San Marco. It benefits from a water gate, boat mooring, private lift, sunny terrace, and a courtyard entrance. Decorated in classic Venetian style, the property extends to approximately 4,305 square feet, with an additional 1,184 square feet of storage rooms. The palazzo showcases a pale gold color scheme and is filled with antique furniture, marble busts, grand chandeliers, oil paintings, and other statement artworks.
