Must watch Italian TV Series on RAI this season !

2025 promises to be a rich year for lovers of Italian fiction and TV series. Rai 1 in particular is preparing to offer a schedule full of emotions, suspense and top-level productions. Ranging from classic stories, contemporary dramas and breathtaking thrillers. 

Imma Tataranni - Matera

Such as Imma Tataranni, an Italian mystery-drama series starring Vanessa Scalera in the title role about a a deputy prosecutor, who uses unconventional methods to investigate various cases. She also has to deal with problems at home caused by her eccentric husband and rebellious daughter. The series is based on the Imma Tataranni series of detective novels by Mariolina Venezia. Broadcast on Rai 1 since 2019, it is set in Matera and was shot in Matera and in other Basilicata cities, and the new season 4 has started in February on RAI.

Leopardi - Il poeta dell'infinito - Naples

On January 7th and 8th RAI, broadcasted Leopardi – Il poeta dell’Infinito,miniseries dedicated to Giacomo Leopardi, which tells the life of the famous Italian poet. Presented as a world premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, it will be broadcast in two prime time evenings, on January 7th and 8th. Set in the 19th century, it is directed by Sergio Rubini and boasts a high-level cast, with Leonardo Maltese in the role of Giacomo Leopardi. Among the others there are also Cristiano Caccamo, Giusy Buscemi, Valentina Cervi, Fausto Russo Alesi, Serena Iansiti, Andrea Pennacchi. And Alessandro Preziosi and Alessio Boni. Filmed in various Italian regions, including Puglia, the series has reconstructed evocative settings. Naples has been reproduced between old Taranto and Martina Franca, while the residence of Leopardi's friend, Antonio Ranieri, has been recreated at the Museo Civico Romanazzi Carducci in Putignano.


Un passo dal cielo - Dolomites

January 9th is the turn of the eighth season of Un passo dal cielo, with six new prime time slots filmed and set in the mountains of the Dolomites. Alongside the protagonists Manuela and Enrico Nappi, played respectively by Giusy Buscemi and Enrico Ianniello, there is also the mysterious Nathan (Marco Rossetti). He will be helped to discover his origins by Stephen Anderssen (Raz Degan), a researcher who has come to San Vito di Cadore with a team of scientists to save a glacier in danger. The season also sees the entry of Nino Frassica in the role of the "magical" uncle Nino, along with new faces such as Cecilia Bertozzi, Alice Arcuri and Alberto Malanchino. With them, Serena Iansiti and Gianmarco Pozzoli. Directed by Alexis Sweet and Laszlo Barbo, this year too the fiction promises to tell emotions, nature and current events.

Mina Settembre - Naples

On Sunday, January 12, Serena Rossi returned as Mina Settembre. And this third season continues the story of the personal and professional events of Italy's most beloved Neapolitan social worker. Inspired by the novels of Maurizio De Giovanni, this new season also consists of 12 episodes over 6 prime time evenings, in which the protagonist finds herself grappling with decisive choices. Mina will be called upon to definitively choose between Domenico and Claudio, respectively played by Giuseppe Zeno and Giorgio Pasotti, with implications that will change the course of her life. The season will also see new arrivals, such as Luca Ward, and touching farewells, including that of Marina Confalone in the role of Olga. Aunt Rosa, played by Marisa Laurito, also returns.


Il Conte di Montecristo

A highly anticipated international production, Il Conte di Montecristo, it will be broadcast starting from Monday 13 January, over 4 evenings. Directed by Danish director Bille August (two Palme d'Or at Cannes and an Oscar), it mixes fidelity to the novel and a modern vision to reinterpret one of the most beloved works of world literature. Sam Claflin plays Edmond Dantès, the young sailor victim of a plot that leads him to a dramatic imprisonment. Alongside him, Oscar winner Jeremy Irons plays Abbot Faria, the wise mentor who changes Edmond's destiny. The international cast also includes Ana Girardot, Mikkel Boe Folsgaard, Blake Ritson, Karla-Simone Spence. And the Italian actors Michele Riondino, Lino Guanciale, Gabriella Pession and Nicolas Maupas. A great choral project previewed at the 2024 Rome Film Fest, it is one of the most anticipated titles of the entire television season.

Il commissario Ricciardi - Naples

In early 2025, Lino Guanciale will return as Il Commissario Ricciardi, the series inspired by the novels by Maurizio de Giovanni directed by Gianpaolo Tescari. The third season will be based on the books Per mano mia, Il purgatorio dell'angelo, Il pianto dell'alba and the story I vivi e i morti. It will be full of contrasting emotions: alongside a long-awaited romantic twist that will finally bring great joy to Inspector Ricciardi, there will also be a dramatic farewell. Filming, set in 1934, took place in the heart of Naples and in other locations such as Taranto, which offers the ideal setting to recreate the Naples of the 1930s. Guanciale, in the role of the commissioner, explained how this new season brings his character to confront an increasingly dangerous context, where even heroes are vulnerable.
