Valentine's Day is linked to the heart symbol, representing love. This symbol originated from the plant silphium, which was used in ancient times for its aphrodisiac properties. The heart shape became associated with Saint Valentine of Terni, who performed secret marriages during the Roman Empire. Consequently, February 14th is celebrated as Valentine's Day. Pastry shops across Italy have created many versions of heart-shaped treats for this occasion. Here are some of the most delicious cakes created by leading Italian Pasticcerias.
The pastry chef from Pescara - Pasticceria Caprice celebrates Valentine's Day with the Love Cake, an elegant dessert that embodies the refinement of love. Covered in a thin layer of milk chocolate, it hides a combination of almond and caramel creams, combining sweetness and crunchiness in a perfect balance. And who said that love can't be a little glacier? Serena Urzì from Catania refreshes the palate of lovers with a white chocolate semifreddo and a heart of berry sorbet that top a base of bisque, also white. It's all there, all that's missing is the tasting.

A hymn to the freedom of love in every form: the dessert by chef Luca Ludovici of ConTatto (Frascati) combines a leavened product with cherries in alcohol inside the dough and a velvety zabaglione. To be broken and dipped, in a continuous play of textures and flavours.
The Alta Cremeria Vitaro in Cosenza offers Rosso Valentina, a vibrant single portion: biscuit and raspberry sauce, white chocolate and tonka bean mousse, a heart of raspberry gelée and a beetroot glaze. To top it all off, edible rose petals.

The Giraudi chocolate company celebrates Valentine's Day with four symbolic creations: Messages from the Heart, Love, Hearts and Roses. Each praline contains enveloping fillings such as cremino with chopped hazelnuts, raspberry and gianduia crunch, all made with natural colorings and without hydrogenated fats.
A dessert that invites reflection: "Think and Love" from
Noemi Dell’Agnello - Pensa e Ama. She combines two creams, one in the shape of a brain (dark chocolate and honey on crunchy meringue) and one in the shape of a heart (crème brûlée with berries and vanilla). Because love is balance between mind and heart.

The panettone master Vincenzo Tiri offers his classic, the famous "Dolcecuore", created 15 years ago to deseasonalize panettone and make it perfect for Valentine's Day. Two variations, Chocolate and Berries, for a leavened product full of love.
Avellino pastry chef Carmen Vecchione presents an intriguing cocoa tartlet with "Mortarella" Irpine hazelnut praline and Belize dark chocolate cremino. An intense and refined experience, dedicated to chocolate lovers. Or the Cuore Sacre Cake with rasberry, litchi and rosa.

Matteo Cunsolo from La Panetteria, transforms the classic Maritozzo into a symbol of love: two Maritozzi united in the shape of a heart, filled with whipped cream and custard. "Two lovers who meet and complete each other".
