An era is coming to an end. After 76 years, Piaggio will no longer produce the Ape in its Pontedera (Pisa) factories. This marks the end of a significant chapter in Italian history, but it's not a complete farewell. The iconic three-wheeler will continue its legacy in India, where it has been manufactured for several years. The first Ape model was designed shortly after World War II by aeronautical engineer Corradino D'Ascanio, who also created the Vespa, following an idea from Enrico Piaggio. Seventy-six years later, the decision to cease production has been primarily influenced by new European Union regulations on vehicles, according to sources close to the industrial group and confirmed by union representatives. Moving forward, the Ape will be produced exclusively in India for local and African markets, where emissions regulations are less stringent.
