The 19th edition of the Rome Film Fest will take place from 16 to 27 October 2024 at the evocative location of the Auditorium Parco della Musica. The structure designed by Renzo Piano will be the fulcrum of the event and will host screenings, meetings, events, debates, conferences and the long red carpet. As in 2023, the Rome Film Fest will hold an international competition and the films will be judged by judges from the world of cinema, culture and the arts. Opening with "Megalopolis" by Francis Ford Coppola; and life time achievements awards for Virgo Mortensen and Johnny Depp.
On Monday October 14th, the iconic Cinecittà Studios, thanks to the Ministry of Culture, will host the Italian preview of Megalopolis, the most recent film by the maestro Francis Ford Coppola, the great director who has authored masterpieces such as the saga of The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. During the evening at Cinecittà, a special tribute will be paid to the great Italian-American director who returns, after many years, to the Studios in Rome in which he prepared several scenes from The Godfather Part III. Megalopolis will be released in theatres starting on October 16th, distributed in Italy by Eagle Pictures. The film stars Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito and Nathalie Emmanuel, among others.
The storyline of Megaolpolis: a brilliant artist with the power to stop time fights against an ultraconservative mayor to save the dying world and inspire hope. Megalopolis is a Roman epic set in a modern imaginary America. The city of New Rome is changing, causing bitter conflicts between Cesar Catilina, a brilliant artist trying to project himself into an idealistic utopian future, and his nemesis, the mayor Franklin Cicerone, a greedy and corrupt reactionary tied to a regressive status quo. Caught in the middle is Julia Cicerone, the mayor’s daughter who falls in love with Cesar Catilina and finds that she must choose who to be loyal to, and think about what humanity truly deserves.
