The New Gucci Blondie Bag

From her early days with Andy Warhol to starring in a campaign with Gucci at 79, the Blondie frontwoman continues to be as unconventional as ever. Gucci has released its latest initiative, celebrating its enduring connection to London, titled "We Will Always Have London." This campaign features an iconic cast and highlights a standout item: the "Blondie" bag.

Just as Rick Blaine and Ilsa Lund from Casablanca will always be associated with Paris, Gucci will forever be tied to London. The Italian luxury brand recently unveiled its campaign paying homage to the English capital. Shot by acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Nan Goldin and styled by Francesca Burns, the campaign is directed by Gucci's creative director, Sabato De Sarno. Goldin employs her signature documentary-style approach to create a moody, intimate campaign filled with emotion and a wild-hearted sense of romance. The scenes follow the protagonists as they navigate London during twilight, riding in black taxis, dancing on rooftops, boating in lush parks, and enjoying life in opulent apartments—all reflecting the city's dynamic and vibrant atmosphere.

London holds a special place in Gucci’s history; it’s where a young Guccio Gucci worked as a liftboy at The Savoy Hotel in 1899. His encounters with elegance and grace during that time sparked his desire to establish a leather goods house. This cherished link to London, combined with De Sarno’s own affection for the city, is further explored in Gucci’s Resort '25 collection, which the cast models in the latest campaign. In the captivating narrative of "We Will Always Have London," one accessory stands out: the Gucci 'Blondie' bag. Its design, reminiscent of Harry’s band, first emerged in the '70s when Gucci unveiled a new variation of its interlocking Gs, embodying the era's free-spirited vibe.

De Sarno revived this emblem from the archives for the Resort '25 collection, where it graced minimalist, polished bags crafted from luxurious materials like buttery Tuscan leather and suede. Tuscan leather is renowned for its exceptional suppleness and high quality. It strikes a perfect balance of softness and elegance through a unique treatment that uses minimal chemicals alongside specific oils. This process involves careful tumbling, finishing, and pressing, making the leather truly distinctive. The Gucci 'Blondie' is also available in canvas versions, either monogrammed or plain, and comes in a range of attractive colors and sizes, including mini, small, medium, and maxi, as featured in the latest campaign. Ultimately, the 'Blondie' bag celebrates heritage and craftsmanship, evident in every detail—from the saddle-making-inspired stitching to the enamelled brass logo. These finishing techniques pay homage to the artistry employed by Gucci’s artisans in the brand’s jewelry designs of the '70s. Combining nostalgia with modern elegance, the 'Blondie' is a timeless piece that can accompany you on any journey, whether in London or beyond.
