Roberto Cavalli, the Italian fashion designer, passed away today in Florence at the age of 83 after battling an illness for some time. He is survived by his partner of 15 years, Sandra Bergman Nilsonn, and his children - Tommaso, Cristiana, Giorgio, Robert, Rachele, and Daniele. His first marriage was to Silvanella Giannoni, while his second was to Eva Duringer, who was also his right-hand in the fashion industry. She helped him build his brand, which he sold in 2015. Cavalli was born in Florence on 15 November 1940. He pursued his passion for art, photography, and fashion. He managed to graduate from the Academy of Florence and went on to become a celebrated fashion designer.
He started a small shop in Saint-Tropez where he sold his own style of used and reworked jeans. His unique style attracted famous customers like Brigitte Bardot and Mick Jagger, making it a success. However, he experienced both highs and lows throughout his career. He was known for being extreme, with no middle ground. In his last interview, he said that his favourite dress was the one with a tiger's head that he made Cindy Crawford wear when she descended from Trinità di Monti, in Piazza di Spagna. He considered it a beautiful dress that represented him well because it spoke of nature, like the photos of his flowers and animals. His animal prints, brocades, and leather inlays became an instantly recognizable style. His signature leopard, zebra, or tiger print dresses were made of chiffon and silk, with transparencies and sensuality to the nth degree. Cindy Crawford, Charlize Theron, Sharon Stone, Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Lopez, and all the most beautiful women in the world wore his dresses.
