The Lightning of the Xmas Tree at Piazza del Popolo in Rome

Rome's famous Christmas tree on Piazza del Popolo was lit up last week on the 8th December, as per tradition by Mayor Gualtieri: "We couldn't give up this tradition in this wonderful setting." 8,000 Romans and tourists came to Piazza del Popolo to watch this spectacle; announcing the start of the Christmas season in the eternal city. In an unprecedented location, everyone was following the countdown; parallel the entire Via del Corso was also gradually lit up, the road leading to Piazza Venezia.

As part of the celebration the traditional choir of the choral singing school of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, with children aged 9 to 15 were singing Christmas songs. A beautiful and festive moment.  

This year's Christmas tree comes from Como and is 21 meters tall. Decorated with 100,000 LEDs lamps and 800 Christmas balls.

Mayor Gualtieri: "We moved  this year from Piazza Venezia, due to the building works at the Piazza due to the Metro build.  "It is a moment of transformation to make the city more modern", added the mayor.
