Sicily confirms its role as the perfect location for films and TV series. Hence, it is no coincidence that Palermo was chosen for the filming of the new Netflix series inspired by The Leopard, the best known novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa: reference was also made to Syracuse. This is confirmed by Francesco Italia, mayor of the Municipality in question. Syracuse will become one of the main locations of the new Netflix series with an all-Sicilian flavor, and already in the coming months. In fact, filming in the city should start between May and July.
Casting aimed at selecting 2,500 extras to be used throughout Sicily and in addition, a considerable number of workers will also be chosen on site. The Leopard will be another opportunity to have international visibility on par with other successful films recently filmed in Sicily such as the latest in the Indiana Jones saga, Cirano or the recent debut feature by Colapesce and Dimartino.
The story of the Leopard is set in Sicily during the Risorgimento and the transition from the Bourbon regime to the Kingdom of Italy, and focuses on the character of the Prince of Salina and the dynamics between him, his family and historical events.
The story conceived by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa and then transposed by Luchino Visconti on the big screen is then divided into several episodes to discover and rediscover the modernity of a story set in the 19th century which has marked the history of Italian literature and which to have a strong impact on people even in the contemporary world.
