Coffee is like a religion in Italy and each Caffè Bar usually has its own branded coffee or espresso cups. For home use, a number of leading Coffee brands such as Illy or Lavazza have designed very artistic versions of espresso cups. But also homeware companies like Guzzini or Alessi have their versions; as do some of the leading Italian Design brands such as Roberto Cavalli or Versace. For 30 years, illycaffè has been producing designer cups: "lithographs" for espresso. The company did recently celebrated this anniversary with an exhibition at the Around Gallery (Corso Venezia 6). On display 114 collections for 459 specimens of artists who have decorated the tableware, based on the idea of the architect Matteo Thun. To accompany the retrospective "Illy Art Collection - 30 Years of Beauty", the volume with the same title (ed. Silvana Editoriale). The basic genius of the phenomenon that has ennobled the rite of espresso, the conception of the white surface of the cup as a canvas where every creative form can be expressed.
